Книга основана на визуальном исследовании Антона Волненко «Типология бесстрастной фотографии». Исследование выделяет 4 основных типа бесстрастной фотографии: город, портрет, природа и общество. Особенность этого направления: отрешенность и сдержанность. Работы лишенны излишней эмоциональности или гиперболизаций. Цель проекта — адаптировать исследование под печатный формат, при этом не нарушать его структуру и логику.
Дополнением к тексту введения становится вкладыш с обзором каждой главы. В обзоре собраны краткие описания глав издания, перечислены фамилии основных фотографов и даны миниатюры изображений из соответствующих глав. Под названием каждой главы указан номер страницы, с которой она начинается. На обороте вкладыша напечатан бонусный материал — фотография, которая не вошла в финальную подборку визуального исследования. Вкладыш напечатан на одном листе с двух сторон.
