The installation addresses the ecological disaster on the Black Sea coast, a pollution that has affected places connected to my personal memory.

The foundation of the work is the image of the sea as a single, living body that is gradually losing its natural state under the influence of pollution.

post

The black form simultaneously evokes an oil slick and a living hand penetrating the sea. Pollution takes on the characteristics of an alien organism spreading within the ecosystem, disrupting its integrity. The semi-transparent panels represent the Black Sea. Each fragment closer to the slick is murkier and interspersed with dark, murky areas. The shadow cast by the «oil hand» serves as an additional expressive element. It falls upon the colored section of the installation, visually extending the area of pollution’s impact beyond the object itself.

The water element of the installation can be recycled since its main components are made of one type of plastic (PLA). The black «arm,» however, is composed of two different types, which makes recycling impossible.

This constraint also becomes part of the project’s statement: the aquatic element retains the possibility of returning to the recycling cycle. Meanwhile, the fusion of different plastics in the oil slick symbolizes the consequences of pollution that are difficult to remediate. Thus, the solution becomes part of a statement about the impact of emissions on the Black Sea ecosystem.

Materials:

Polylactic acid (PLA) for the base plates Polypropylene (PP) for the transparent hand base Polyethylene (PE) for the bituminous film layer
