About the Subject
The bag was developed as part of an author’s project dedicated to reinterpreting the legacy of Nadezhda Lamanova—a couturier whose work combined tailoring mastery, complex textures, decorative elements, and expressive silhouettes. The concept is founded on the idea of translating historical costume aesthetics into a contemporary accessory.
The project explores how characteristic elements of Lamanova’s outfits can be integrated into relevant design, preserving their artistic expressiveness while acquiring a new interpretation.
Object Snap
The bag is a contemporary accessory featuring a soft, sculptural form that combines a sleek, structural base with expressive draping. Its silhouette is inspired by the voluminous folds, layered fabric, and decorative details of historical costumes. Asymmetrical textile elements form a fluid volume, reminiscent of unfurling petals or fabric fragments gathered into a complex composition.

The bag’s aesthetic is built upon the contrast between the noble texture of jacquard featuring an ornate pattern and the smooth surface of satin or leather. Powder-pink, cream, and muted golden hues reference Lamanova’s evening wear, while the metallic hardware and contemporary silhouette make the accessory relevant for everyday wardrobes. Thus, historical motifs are used not literally, but as a source for plastic and material solutions.
Details
The primary expressive element of the bag is the draping: large folds and layered pieces create a sense of movement and softness. The ornamental jacquard resembles decorative fabrics from historical costumes, while the smooth inserts emphasize the depth of the texture and the volume of the construction. The leather handle and metal hardware balance the textile’s decorative quality, lending the item the character of a contemporary luxury bag. The dangling decorative element with a tassel references traditional costume details, reimagined as a functional or detachable accessory.
Parameters
The handbag is conceived as an accessory that balances a distinct visual aesthetic with the functionality of a modern design. It is envisioned with a short handle suitable for carrying by hand or over the shoulder.
The core of the construction is a voluminous body, complemented by individual draped details. To maintain its shape, a dense jacquard, lining fabric, reinforcing materials, and leather or a high-quality substitute for the handle and high-stress areas are required. The draping will be executed in a more pliable material that allows for soft folds.
For manufacturing, it is necessary to develop patterns for the body, lining, handle, and decorative elements, to define seam allowances, control marks, and the assembly sequence. Particular attention must be paid to the handle attachment, the finishing of the top edge, securing the draping, and the closure mechanism design.
The decorative elements are designed to be integrated into the item’s structure in a way that does not obstruct the bag’s opening, overload it, or compromise its shape during use. The interior space can be organized using lining and a pocket for small personal belongings.

Production
The production of the bag is planned in collaboration with a workshop specializing in custom-made bags and accessories. The preliminary budget for design, material selection, and the creation of the first sample is 29,000 rubles. The estimated cost to sew one piece in a small series of five units is 8,000–12,000 rubles, excluding the initial design fees.
