Here I have gathered the process behind my work on projects across various fields.
MOSKA — Prazdnik
A music video for the song «Celebration» (rus. «Праздник» — holiday or celebration) by the band MOSKA. In the story, a girl escapes a noisy party and becomes consumed by intrusive thoughts, gradually transforming into a wolf-monster. A new friend — a stray kitten — helps her return to her original form. Together, they head to the rooftop to gaze at the stars.
Task
The task was to create a three-minute animated clip with a style inspired by children drawings. The theme of the music video was meant to revolve around the protagonist’s lack of self-confidence and her inability to fit into society.Idea
I wanted the visual approach to convey not just the simplicity of a kid doodles, but also the protagonist’s emotions—specifically, the irritation she feels toward the noisy, festive atmosphere. To achieve this, I opted for shaky outlines for the characters, used a hand-applied coloring technique that immitates pencil strokes instead of solid fills, and incorporated actual watercolor drawings and collages into the animation.Process
1. The Story
The client provided a theme for the music video and some visual preferences, but there was no plot, so I was asked to come up with one myself. I felt the song would suit a story about a girl who feels deeply uncomfortable during noisy celebrations; she runs away from a party, looking for a place to hide, only to eventually find a friend who understands her.2. Character development
The client requested a character who looks like a cute, doll-like girl—a visual contrast to the song. She needed to be able to transform into a wild beast whenever she feels uncomfortable due to the surrounding noise—a metaphor for her sense of not belonging among others. I chose the form of a wolf. Another requirement was the inclusion of a kitten in the music video.
3. Storyboard & Animatic
Before I began animating, I created a storyboard and an animatic. I listened closely to the song’s lyrics and music to get a feel for the timing and to craft a more dynamic, rhythmic video.
