1.1 Antonym calendar-specimen
About A calendar specimen for Antonym, a typeface by Brownfox studio, dedicated to the events of the August Coup of 1991.Bringing together two antithetical narrative threads, the specimen explores censorship in the Soviet era while reflecting the typeface’s eclectic nature.

Problem Antonym is a hybrid typeface that combines contrasting typographic qualities. Its eclecticism and postmodern character call for a more nuanced narrative that goes beyond technical specifications.
Idea Reimagining the conventional calendar year, the specimen tracks the four days of the August Coup down to the minute, alongside a parallel timeline of Swan Lake, whose four acts are mapped onto a system of quarters. The publication is composed of folded sheets. When closed, only the storyboard of Swan Lake is visible; unfolding the sheets reveals the historical chronicle of the coup. The narrative is thus concealed within the publication, mimicking the mechanisms of censorship.
Result The two antithetical narrative threads enter into dialogue, creating a nuanced interplay that succinctly captures the character of the typeface.
1.2 The Berenger Plays
About A collection of plays by Eugène Ionesco, united by a recurring character named Bérenger. Constantly in conflict with his environment, he becomes the leitmotif of the book and the entry point into each play.
Problem With a recurring protagonist at its core, the collection calls for a distinctive and expressive typographic approach to his voice and dialogue.Idea Bérenger’s lines remain unchanged across all the plays, while the dramatic space around him shifts. He becomes a point of entry into each work, revealing different facets of his character depending on the surrounding cast and stage settings.
Result The collection reveals the multifaceted nature of Bérenger by continually shifting the context around him.
