Sirocco.Synth — a web synthesizer inspired by the atmosphere of the desert and ancient caravan routes. The instrument combines sounds of wind, sand, and heat with distant voices of travelers, creating an immersive soundscape of the Middle East.
The instrument has two voices: the desert and the caravan. Each voice has four preset states and four sliders that alter the sound’s character. The voices sound simultaneously, and the crossfader mixes them, transporting the listener from the open desert into the caravan. The maqam line sets the mode for the entire instrument, down to quarter tones. On the sand field, you can draw a melody that repeats until the wind erases the trace.

Play and Pause buttons with a crossfader, a row of maqams, two mirror panels—desert and caravan—each with four presets and four sliders, and a sand field. The desert presets are named after elemental states, while the caravan presets are named after human actions. The sliders are named for the feeling they evoke rather than the technical effect (horizon instead of reverb, spirit instead of chorus).
