Concept
FAULT — a web synthesizer styled as a «broken yet functional instrument.» Two voices—melody and bass—connect to a drum sequencer and four effects. The light background, uneven contours, and contrasting colors evoke an old piece of equipment that is still producing sound.
The core concept is the fragility of the signal: evolving from isolated pulses to a stable melody, distortion, and decay. The bass provides the foundation, the melody sustains the motif, and the effects add echo, space, and grit. The musical development is structured around the gradual emergence and disappearance of sound layers.
Structure

The project was created using ChatGPT to assist in writing and refining the synthesizer code. It helped configure two voices, the effects chain, and sound routing across channels, correct button functionality, and transfer my mockup into a working interface. It also helped prepare the concept description, the instrument’s structure, and component naming. Prompt: «Help me develop the FAULT web synthesizer based on the instructor’s code and my mockup. The concept is a broken, yet functional instrument. The project must have a minimum of two voices with an effects chain and channel routing. Maintain my visual style and element placement, fix control errors, and balance the sound. Help me describe the instrument’s characteristics, its structure, the interface components, and their naming. The instrument must be suitable for independent musical performance.»
